Chronicles of the Unknown Ukrainians continues its European journey!
Vilnius, Hamburg, Budapest, Copenhagen – what do these European cities have in common? The fact that they will be the next to host the international photo exhibition B50!
Chronicles of the Unknown Superheroes Ukrainians is a travelling media project about ordinary Ukrainians who work five days a week at ordinary jobs, try to live ordinary lives in a world where ballistic missile attacks have become a strange norm, and on weekends turn into superheros volunteers.
The photographs of the tireless B50 activists have already visited Tbilisi, Geneva, and Alytus. The next locations of the photo exhibition are described below.
Vilnius, Lithuania
From 2 January to 1 March 2024, Chronicles of the Unknown Superheroes Ukrainians will visit the The Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights in Vilnius. The museum was opened in 1992 in the former headquarters of the KGB (unfortunately, Lithuanians understand the consequences of russian occupation as well as Ukrainians). More than 80,000 people visit the museum every year, most of them tourists from around the world.
Hamburg, Germany
The opening of Chronicles of the Unknown Superheroes Ukrainians in Hamburg is timed to coincide with the second anniversary of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The photos of B50 volunteers will be on display from 23 February to June 2024.
The exhibition will be located in a popular tourist spot – near the Mahnmal St. Nikolai (Willy Brandt-Strasse 60) in the open air. The Church of St Nicholas was destroyed after the bombing of Hamburg during the Second World War. Only the tower (the second tallest building in the city!) and the outer walls of this 19th-century neo-Gothic church survived the events. Today, the ruins serve as a monument in honour of those who died and were persecuted during the war.
Budapest, Hungary
The opening of Chronicles of the Unknown Superheroes Ukrainians in Budapest is also timed to coincide with the second anniversary of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Here, the exhibition will run from 24 February to 21 March 2024.
The photos of the B50 volunteers will be exhibited in the open air at Bakáts Square, located in Pest, in Budapest’s 9th district, also known as Ferencvaros. The square is also home to the Budapest 9th District Municipality, which is helping to organise the exhibition.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Throughout March 2024, Chronicles of the Unknown Superheroes Ukrainians will be on view in Copenhagen at the Nørrebrohallen in the Nørrebro district.
The Nørrebrohallen is a sports and cultural centre that used to be a tram depot and is now owned and operated by the Copenhagen City Council. The main activity of the institution is sports, but the centre also has a library, café, conference halls, coworking space, and most importantly, it hosts exhibitions and various cultural events.
We invite everyone to visit the Chronicles of the Unknown Superheroes Ukrainians, and to bring your family/friends/acquaintances/colleagues with you ….)))
