Introducing the designers: Anna
We continue to get to know the designers who help B50 create unique designs for the children’s bomb shelters that our Reconstruction and Shelters projects are renovating. Currently, our community is working at two locations, in the shelters of the Strumochok kindergarten in Druzhnia village and the Yalynka kindergarten in Mykulychi.
After the Reconstruction volunteers finish their tasks in the rooms, turning the grey walls and ceilings of the basements into fresh and bright spaces, the volunteers of the Shelters take up their work here, filling the shelters with lovely drawings for children. To do this, we choose the theme that best suits the shelter, come up with ideas and determine the placement of the drawings. And then, designers get to work to turn this idea into unique murals or drawings.
Our volunteer Vika helped us create the mural for the Yalynka kindergarten shelter, as well as Alina, a graduate of the Ampli teen accelerator, whose drawings will fill the walls of not only the future bedroom in Mykulychi, but also the walls of the large “Rhythm” hall in Druzhnia. We’d like to introduce you to the young designers from Ampli, whose murals are already starting to come to life in Druzhnia!
Introducing Anna, whose drawings will warm and inspire 🙂
Anna‘s task was to create drawings for two passage rooms in Druzhnaya, which simultaneously serve as bedrooms/play areas for two groups of preschoolers.
The first room, “Inspiration”, will be decorated with a dreamy and romantic mural depicting kind and mysterious dinosaurs, which are so loved by little children and always fascinate them.
Repair work in this room is still ongoing, but the wall on which the mural is placed is ready thanks to the volunteers of Reconstruction, so the teams are working here in parallel.
“Inspiration” mural is already starting to come to life with the help of a projector and the tireless work of our volunteers.
First, the artwork coordinator Polina transfers the mural sketch using a projector, and then the volunteers paint the contours with paints.
The second challenge was the decoration of the “Warmth” room, which has a complex and uneven structure, a lot of communications, but is to be used for preschoolers during air raid. Therefore, it had to be transformed into a bright and warm space by adding charming and cosy drawings to the walls.
The drawings will decorate the entire perimeter of the room, more than 70 square metres! Children will be greeted by a gentle, carefree, calm world filled with friendly inhabitants of the underwater world.
Anna notes that the hardest part was imagining the size of the walls and adjusting the canvas to make everything fit, and hopes that the children will enjoy looking at the drawings and coming up with cool stories with these characters.
And so do we! We hope that the heroes of all the murals in Druzhnia will become companions of the children when they have to stay in shelters during air threats, will reassure them, warm them and inspire them to great achievements!
This experience is super cool for professional growth! I am very proud that I was able to combine work with pleasure! And it is an integral part of sharing my skills.
I tried to make it as cute and cartoonish as possible, because the kids are still very young. My goal was to make them want to go to the basement as a ‘playroom’ with beautiful drawings, rather than crying into a gloomy vault.
I am very glad that my work will be useful for society, and in such a difficult time for our country I will be able to help people)
